Mouthwashing is a 2024 single-player, psicological/graphic horror adventure in 3D, developed by indie studio Wrong Organ and published by Critical Reflex.
Originally the game was supposed to be, according to the team of developers and creators, a free update of their debut game "How fish is made", inspired by the puzzle action game "Katamari Damacy", but after the Steam release of a short demo in February 2024, and tons of positive rewiews by players who took a shot with the demo, the team decided to separate the two games and turn Mouthwashing into a total different project; On 26/09/2024 the game was released for Windows on Steam.
In just two weeks after the full release Mouthwashing got the highest positive ranking rewiew on Steam and was nominated for "Game of the year" at the 2024 Game Awards.
About the general plot: Spaceship Tulpar owned by the Pony Express delivery company (who's revealed later in the game that's shutting down forever due to going bankrupt), wich the sole purpose is carrying and delivering supplies of different genres by dashing trough space, gets severely damaged after a crush with an asteroid and stuck adrift in the void of deep space with five people trapped within: Captain Curly, who after the incident responsible for the crash lays defensless, burned/skinless and without hands nor legs anymore on the infirmary cot, his best friend and co-pilot of the Tulpar Jimmy who takes the captain role and replaces Curly, nurse Anya, the mechanic Swansea and his intern Daisuke.
By playing in a first-person perspective, alternating the bodies of captain Curly (Before the cockpit incident) and his friend Jimmy you'll need to jump back and forth from past to present in a confusing nonlinear narrative who alternates disjointed periods of time, who also can distance from one another of just a day, an hour, weeks or even months.
As the story progresses we won't help but just watch as the events unfold, trapping the people in the Tulpar in a spiral of madness and despair to the point of no return, forcing us to lead them into the definitive demise at the hands of the true villain of the story.
There's no multiple endings, since the game also wanted to represent under this point of view the inevitability of fate caused by the consequences of your actions, no matter how much you run away from them or try to bury them deep in a past you don't feel like yours anymore; The more you'll struggle to prevent the inevitable, the more your fate will maul you alive until total defeat waiting for you at the finish line.
You'll need to unknot the disturbing and terrible truth surrounding the crash of the Tulpar bit by bit and finally take responsibility of all of your actions, no matter how much they hurt or disturbe you.
